How to install the Odissi phone app

To install and run the beta of the Odissi app on an android phone, perform the steps below. (The installation for iPhone and iPad is not yet ready. In time, both will be available from the Google Play store and the Apple store.)

Note: Skip step 2 if your phone is running Android 7.1 and later. (You will not be able to find the indicated security setting.)
  1. If you are updating from a previous release of Odissi, you must delete the Odissi app from your phone before proceeding.
  2. The following steps are needed only for old releases of Android (before 7.1, Nougat, released to fully-supported phones August 2017):
    1. In Settings, under More, select Security. Check the box next to "Unknown sources".
    2. It will warn you about the danger of installing software from an unknown source (i.e. anywhere except the Play Store). Accept the risk for this app.
    3. After the last step below, go back to Settings and uncheck the box next to "Unknown sources".
  3. View this page in the web browser on your phone and download http://johnreine.com/com.mightyferrite.odissi.apk
  4. When the file com.mightyferrite.odissi.apk has downloaded, open your downloads folder.
You can do this with the Downloads app (a blue square with a green downward-pointing arrow), or you can use the My Files app (looks like a yellow file folder) and select Download.
  5. Select com.mightyferrite.odissi.apk. Accept the warning. Say "yes" to launch it.

When you want to launch it look among the apps on your phone for the name Odissi.droid.
